Industry Report: Music, Journalism, Films.

3. You now need to gather some research into the three industries that you may be interested in pursuing after college.



You will need to produce information on the following subjects and print it for your folder (industry section)








Magazine:








· The major companies in the Magazine industry are NME, Kerrang Metal Hammer, EMPIRE, Total Film, Top Gear, Radiotimes.

4. Write up your notes into three mini reports (min 150 words). Each report should contain details of the following.




· Historical Origins and developments within the industry: the first magazine ever made was The Gentlemans Magazine which was first published in 1731, Edward Cave was the man who edited the The Gentlemans Magazine was the first person to use the word magazine. The longest running magazine The Scots Magazine which first started publishing in 1739 and is still going today.






· Key companies or industry leaders (a range of examples):




Alexander Milas (Editor of Metal Hammer)



Nichola Brown (Editor of Kerrang!)



Ben Preston (Editor of Radio Times)



Krissi Murison (Editor of NME)



Mark Dinning (Editor of Empire)






· How individuals can get into the industry, i.e. Qualifications needed etc:

· What types of jobs can you apply for and where could these jobs possibly lead?

· What type of skills would you need, to apply for a job in each of your chosen industries?

· Can you find a job or some work experience that is related to your industry of choice? (print a copy for your folder)

the media industry can be seen to be made up of:

  • Distributors: BBC, Channel 4, Fox, Comedy Central.

  • Producers: Grinada, Warner Bros, BBC.

  • Regulators: OFFCOM, BBFC, ITC.
